So I have been reading alot about the things that I need to do in 2012, and of course, I just had to make my own list. But the good news is that there is only 1 thing on my list. So what is the 1 thing you need to do in 2012 to set yourself apart, engage with your customers more, and grow your business?

Think about it. When you are looking at your Facebook wall feed, what types of items catch your eye and cause you to stop scrolling and actually look at it? Video. When you want to learn something new, like new products, new songs, vacation destinations, etc, what types of sites do you prefer to search? Video. We all do it. You do it all the time. There is a reason why YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world, even though it isn’t a search engine. We all love to watch video.

So what does your business need to do in 2012? Create video. Lots of it. You need to be creating videos of your products, your employees, your customers, your facilities, your everything. Give people a glimpse into aspects of your business that they could never see and your customers will be curious. They’ll be interested and they will feel a little bit closer to you in the process. Give people a glimpse behind the velvet rope (so to speak) and they will feel special. Make informative videos, funny videos, serious videos, and more.

Video cameras and video editing software have never been as cheap. There are numerous video websites that are free and available to you like never before. And perhaps most importantly, Google search indexes all the videos on YouTube so your chances of being found on the internet are much greater if you just create some videos, upload them to YouTube, and tag them like crazy. And you might even have some fun in the process.

So go grab your camera or your cellphone and start shooting some video. It is easier than you think, trust me. And the payoff awaiting you in 2012 just might be more than you expect.

That is so true. As an author and business man, I can relate to how you said “There is a reason why YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world, even though it isn’t a search engine. We all love to watch video”.I hope more people discover your blog because you really know what you’re talking about. Can’t wait to read more from you!
