Once Upon A Time…

Once upon a time there was a small business owner named Bob who was busy. So busy in fact, that he struggled to find time to do all the things that he needed to do. Each morning when the sun shown through his window and awakened his eyes he struggled to get out of bed because the weight of the world was on his shoulders. So much to do. So little time.

One day as Bob drove to work he passed a playground of children who were playing kick the can and squealing with delight. Bob used to love kick the can. He passed an ice cream truck with moms and kids waving their dollars in the air to get ice cream cones and nutty bars. Bob used to love nutty bars. Now he couldn’t even remember what a nutty bar tasted like.

At work Bob wandered through his day in a fog, with phone calls, emails, orders, and conversations, passing by like clouds in the sky. Not that Bob would notice because he didn’t have time to stare at the clouds. Bob was busy. Very busy.

Everyone at work thought Bob was sad. And they were right. Bob was sad. He had forgotten why he got into business in the first place. He had forgotten about kick the can, nutty bars, and clouds.

One day Bob went to the break room at work and opened the refrigerator to get something to eat, when something magical happened. Right before his very eyes he saw it. A nutty bar. He reached for the nutty bar and held it in his hand. He walked to his office and sat in the chair that looked outside. He ate the nutty bar and stared at the clouds and remembered how pretty they were. And Bob decided right there and then to take the rest of the day off.

Bob went home and fished a can from the garbage and went out to the back yard. He set the can on the ground. He stepped back, swung his leg, and kicked the can as far as he could. He stood in the sunshine and watched the can land on the ground, and then he smiled. Bob was back.

When was the last time you ate a nutty bar?
