Sometimes in life you come to the point where you need to start over. Sometimes that means taking a step backwards and sometimes it means taking a step forwards. At 45 years old, in the middle of my effective working life expectancy, I am taking a step forward and making a turn in my career that takes me places I have never been.
I am starting over.
Over the past 6 months I went through a process of realizing that where I was in my job was going nowhere and I didn’t have much of a future in front of me. And as painful as that realization was to accept, I had the unique opportunity to then think outside the box and figure out what I wanted to do. I could do anything I wanted to do, so what did I really want to do? Rather than focus on the bleak future I had at my current job, I decided to focus on the bright future that I had the power to create for myself.
New beginnings are hard. But new beginnings are also exciting. And did I mention scary? If you are facing that point in your personal life or maybe the life of your business, take a hard look at what you really want to do for the rest of your life. That’s what I did. Do I really want to spend the rest of my career doing what I am doing right now? My answer was an emphatic ‘no way’. So I quit wallowing in my self-pity and did something about it. And you can too.
New beginnings. I highly recommend it.
