My 2014 New Year’s Resolution For You (and me)

So my first article of 2014 is about something that is very personal to me.  I spent the majority of 2013 in a slump. I can’t sing ‘woe is me’ too loud because alot of people were much worse off than me in 2013.  But it was one of those times… maybe you know what I mean… where you are restless because you aren’t happy where you are, you know things aren’t right, you don’t feel that great, and you know something needs to happen.  You’ve been there, or maybe you are there right now.   That was me last year.

One thing that I decided to do was finally take control of my weight and my health.  2013 was a year where I felt like crap.  I was overweight and stressed out at work, which caused me to eat even more and get even fatter.  Which then caused me to sleep like crap as well.  But thanks to some friends who kept me accountable, I started getting up at 6am and going to the gym.  The first few weeks were hell, literally.  I didn’t see any results at first except that I felt a little better.  Then I teamed up with my wife and we both started eating better and keep each other accountable.  And then we started going to fitness classes and losing even more weight.

It’s amazing what a little exercise will do for you.  By the way, I highly recommend it.

When I started feeling better and looking better, my attitude started to change a little.  I even started sleeping better.  And I took the bull by the horns and changed jobs to get rid of other toxic energy in my life.  Which brings me to the reason for this post.  If I had to pick some advice to give you for 2014 (as if I am qualified to do that anyway), it would be this:

Get better.

Whatever it is that you are doing, do it better.  If you are eating like crap, eat better.  If your kids aren’t that close to you because you have been ignoring them, then do a better job of hanging out with them.  If you hate your job, get another one that’s better.  If your marriage sucks, then do a better job at being married.  I have wasted a bunch of years in my life doing stuff I didn’t want to do.  Sure wish I could have all that time back.  But I am changing now and doing alot of things better.  I am not where I want to be, but at least I am on my way.  On my way to a whole lot of ‘betters’ in my life.  How about you?
