Before Your Head Hits The Pillow

Maybe I am just getting old and starting to get all nostalgic or something. I have been thinking a great deal about what I am spending my time doing, and how precious my time actually is to me. I have started to cut things out of my life that just don’t make a difference for me, my family, or my customers, and I have also started to be less tolerant of being hassled and dealing with ‘crap’, if you know what I mean. I approach my days differently now and I am starting to waste less time.

So I wanted to share with you what I have done.

I don’t keep stuff anymore. For years I have been the worst at keeping things… emails, papers, bits of materials scattered all over my garage… because you never know “when you might need it”. I don’t do that anymore. It is liberating actually. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not throwing out my kid’s baby pictures, but I think you get the point.

I make decisions quicker. It’s not that I rush into things and make decisions without thinking them through. I am smart about things. But I don’t waste time putting off the decision until tomorrow just to see if I change my mind. I make the decision and I move on.

I tackle the biggest thing first thing in the morning. After I read my news and drink my coffee, of course. But I find that tackling the biggest thing you have on your plate first thing makes the day go much, much better. It’s all downhill from there. If I put off the big thing till the end of the day, I usually don’t leave myself time to finish it, so it ends up on my agenda the next day. I think this is how procrastinators get in trouble.

I made a decision that every night ‘before my head hits the pillow’ I will accomplish something. I will have something marked off my ‘list’ and my tomorrow will be better because of the things that I did today. So my questions to you are…

Did you do everything today that you needed to do? Did you do everything today that you wanted to do? If not, before your head hits the pillow I hope that you too can say that you at least accomplished something today and your list tomorrow will be just a little shorter.
